There really is no 12:00 Noon......
To illustrate this, consider that "a.m" and "p.m." are abbreviations for "ante meridiem" and "post meridiem." They mean "before noon" and "after noon," respectively. Noon is neither before or after noon; it is simply noon. Therefore, neither the number 12:00, "a.m." nor "p.m." designation are correct. On the other hand, midnight is both 12 hours before noon and 12 hours after noon. Therefore, either 12 a.m. or 12 p.m. could work as a designation for midnight, but both would be ambiguous as to the date intended.
Logically, the story is simple: noon is noon (meridiem). Midnight is 12 hours post meridiem (12 p.m.) and 12 hours ante meridiem (12 a.m.), because 12 - 12 = 0, and 12 + 12 is 24 = 0.
However, 12 p.m. is 12 a.m. of the following day - and that's what counts. Therefore midnight should be 12 a.m. and 12 p.m does not exist (if logic plays a role). Noon, however, can certainly neither be 12 hours ante nor post meridiem, because it is meridiem!

Bumping this to keep it current, as I haven't heard from anybody yet. In order to plan for food, I would like to have an idea of who is coming. Thanks.

For all of you who can only read numbers, how will you ever find Bob Hills house? It is on a street with a name, and as we all know, a street name is just like a word... it has letters, not numbers!!!!

It has nothing to do do with reading comprehension. After 17 years in sales and being a racer and competitor by nature, all I want to see is numbers. don't bore me with the words. If I wanted that I would stay home on the weekends.

I think we should have some entertainment at the Awards Dinner : I nominate Rob to do a 30 minute standup Comedy; he's already doing it on this message board

But the word noon has no ones or twos or zeros in it thus tricking us skim/skam readers who are looking for a numeral without really reading....

You tricked us Rob Myles.....oops, so did I...

Dear ST-3 #11a and Mr. Hill -

Obviously neither one of you did well on the reading comprehension part of the SATs. Please go back and re-read THE VERY FIRST SENTENCE in my post in this thread, which says, and I quote, "EMRA will be having it's annual Competition Board Meeting starting at NOON on Sunday, January 22, 2006."

Please note that as my right as The Omnipotent All Seeing Tech Guy, reading comprehension failures are an automatic one class bump.

Seriously, we start pretty much on time--several guys start arriving by 11:30.

I'll have a catered lunch there--coldcuts, salads, coffee, soft drinks etc for $6 a head.

The meeting traditionally can run to as late as 4 or 5 PM, but can vary with the content, and number of issues.

If history is any indication, and the mustangs want bigger brakes, it will be into the following week.
