7 footers in Pennsylvania? What are they feeding you people? And yo - this dude on the Harlem Globetrotters dunks on a 12 foot rim and he's the top dunker on the planet. 12 feet for a high school brother? Wow, I grew up in Mass, ate my Wheaties but that's just straight insane.

Also, many of the top high school teams have a size advantage over almost the entire NECVL. A lot of the good high school teams have at least 2 or 3 hitters over six and a half feet, and sometimes a kid close to 7.

i go home only to watch high school and JO balls every year during their season and i really do think that many hs teams are maturer than necvl teams. i have seen most teams on this list ( http://www.pavbca.com/vball/toptwenty.asp) playing and i bet the top 8 teams could win necvls. not mentioning CA teams cuz prolly their top 20 could do that.

and, of course there is always an exception (maybe you found it in PA) of mature 18 year old guys that can beat college club teams, I just dont believe more than the top team in each state, and really that is hard for me. I only know of PA, CA, IL, WI, and VA to have very solid HS programs. (no offense to east coast states, I could be wrong, Im just looking at top DI rosters where people came from)

lets see that result somewhere, I definitely do not believe that about them beating PSU's club team. I have no doubt there are great players and athletes but not a team ature enough by highschool. Its just my opinion, please go watch your highschool play again and if you still think so, let me know. I was shocked and I think you will be too.

I am surprised a kid from Cali wouldn't think teams in his HS league could beat our club teams. At least in PA, I played against teams where half their lineup played D1 the next year, including one kid on my team who led St. Francis in kills his freshman year. I also played against a kid who could touch over 12 foot, and got PT as a true freshman for PSU last year (when they went to the final four).

i think some of you guys are forgetting that you have nearly double or triple the people in your school then some of the other teams in the league. i mean this w/ no disrespect to most of the teams especially umass, who is clearly much better then we are but has shown us nothign but friendliness both on and off the court for the past 2 years. i mention umass and not other schools because we dont play a lot of the "A" teams. im sure most of you guys are both great players and athletes, there is no doubt about that, and gloating is part of the game, no doubt, and most of the time you deserve to gloat. but remember the differences in school sizes, and the numbers of people you get a chance to pick from before you go acting like your the best thing to walk on the court

dude, I went to highschool in CA, and you must be forgetting the fact that HS vball is made up of younger more inexperiencd players. Go back and watch a game and you will see how much slower and shorter the game really is in highschool. I did the same thing, thinking it was fast and so much better than this league until I went back and watched a game. The guys will be better, but in highschool you were younger and werent even thinking about things you are now. IM sorry, but there is no way a highschool team (def not 20, maybe an all star team) could play with the top teams in our league. Although the same players a year later after graduation from HS could win, they wouldnt be able to beat a legit college club team like BU, UMass, URI, Army, Columbia, or some others from our league unless they were having a bad day. Go back and actually watch your highschool and you will see what I mean. Im guessing that you, like me, built a huge image of how awesome you are yet the teams probably were not as good as you really think when stacked up next to 20-25 year old teams.

Here's the deal, let's relax. This is a problem sports have in general. People not knowing not to take what goes on between the lines personally. How you act on the court has nothing to do with who you are off the court. Being in between the lines brings out something in most of us that are athletes, it is why we play. Arrogance is part of sports, you become a cocky prick when you are in the face of someone off the court telling them they suck...then, yes, you are an ass on and off the court. Speaking from playing on one of the teams that without doubt might be the leader of the pack when it comes to arrogance. When it comes down to it though, I play with a bunch of guys that really love the game and respect it. It just doesn't show to most because of the arrogance on the court. I would take these guys to any tourney, against any team and know we would have a shot. Our down fall with the arrogance is, this team hasn't learned how to bring it agaist all teams. Sometimes that arrogance on the court is a downfall when you know you are better than someone else and just assume you are going to beat them. That is a lesson we at Umass have learned the hard way. As a player on this team I hope my teammates have learned that lesson so it doesn't happen again.

No game should be seen as worthless: any time you play a team you know you are going to beat, work on running new combinations or trying people in new positions.
Gloating can increase the level of play, if done in the correct manner, such as between two teams, and if it is done in a somewhat respectful way. If you are one of the best teams in the league, bragging about how you beat one of the worst is not going to make anyone better.
Lastly, I don't think any team in this league should be gloating, since any of the top 20 teams(at least) in my state(Pennsylvania) my senior year in high school would win our league. Some of us may think we are all that, but when it comes down to it, we are playing guys club volleyball in New England, and pretty much all of us are playing because we just love to play volleyball.

I never said that BU and Army are the only two teams. There's only one team that I actually didn't like playing against simply because of their attitude, so if you haven't played us, then don't worry about it. This isn't even related to teams that are "good", just teams that are disrespectful. "Good" doesn't imply "disrespectful". I apologize if I came off that way, and in no way is the complimenting limited to just BU and Army.

im not saying that telling ppl truths is bad, but what everyone in necvl should do is to improve our league so the level of playing in new england could improve and we would earn respects from programs in other parts of the country, what u do doesnt help anything but creates more internal conflicts, when teams in CA or midwest look down us, how could u look down our own buddies?

Guys, we are running a tourney open to any("A", and "B") teams in the NECVL. Here's an oppurtunity for you to play with both "A" and "B" teams, so if what was written is the case I should be getting more responses for our tourney on the 6th. We want to play anybody over here at UMASS, so please come out, play some good ball and have fun. Let us know.

okay Man, I get it, Army and BU are good guys and us other great teams are jerks for saying that we are good. I just think that sometimes bragging and gloating makes other teams want to get better and things more competitive. no need to get upset bro, relax.

Hey, Im just saying, what makes you a good guy? Cmon, everyone knows that our league is unbelievably top-heavy. Im just saying that its not bad of people to have fun and get a little cocky on the court. I see people complaining cause people tell the truth about other teams and how some games are worthless. So, what do you have to do to be a "good dude?"

Exactly. "To the victor go the spoils"?? What spoils? Your idea of a spoil is to gloat and discrespect others? Congrats man. You play club volleyball, in the Northeast mind you.
Almost all the teams we played against at Yale were great people. And we've played Army twice before and they've been nothing but class. Even after the games, I've spoken with players from BU and Army just about their seasons and stuff. We're dealing with people, and none of us are going pro in this sport, so get off your high horses.

Maybe you should re-think your motivation for playing the sport of volleyball. Don't disrespect other teams just because you were lucky enough to land with a better program. I am sure Army knew they were better, and played with the same intensity they would have if they were playing against a more formidable opponent (unlike some teams). They just realized that once you are off the court you are dealing with people, and there is no reason to point out the fact that another team is less talented.

oh please, what makes people good guys? cause they just think you suck and not say it? If teams are good enough, they have the right to brag, to the vistor go the spoils. Im tired of this 'good guy' stuff. The other teams shouldnt have wasted BU and Armys time.

By the way, since some of the teams on here (cough cough) dont like to even play or speak to B-teams, I wanted to say how much I respect Army and BU. They both were clearly better than all the teams in their pool, yet stayed respectful and talked and played against us like every other game. GREAT DUDES. Especially the captains from both teams. Thanks for setting an example other teams as good as you should follow.
