	I am a bit confused with the Altar Direction within Witchcraft, some say North others say East, and then for rituals of Banishment, in the West. <P><I> [Infoburst: Greetings ethericsoul. What you have to remember is that much of modern witchcraft is promulgated by people who do not fully understand that of which they speak and many similar written inconsistences have crept in to Wiccan worship due to an indiscriminate pick-and-mix of quite separate traditions. Marabas teaches that people who follow the Old Religion in the British Isles (Witchcraft)use the Norse Pantheon of Gods who reside in the North and the altar is therefore placed in the North to honour them. In the classical Pagan Mystery Religions of the Mediterranean area which are usually developments of sun-god worship the Altar is normally placed in the East for that is where Sol rises. The tatvic tides run East to West with the apparent direction of the sun therefore in magical systems using a Sun God, (E.G. Ra, Mithras, Apollo, Zorostrianism etc ) one would banish to the West.
