RE: Bible study for Pagans/Occultists/Satanists

The Book of Revelation has an interesting history indeed. Trouble is, generations of people have been expecting the world to end in their day; so they go hunting for the Antichrist in every leader or institution of questionable ethics. I still remember my college days in the early 80's, when born-again students sat around discussing how Jesus would be coming back soon during the expected nuclear war with the Soviet "Evil Empire." There were scores of books being published during that time insisting that Biblical prophecy was all about the U.S. versus Russia. Sigh...
From my reading of the New Testament, the word "Satan" means adversary or accuser in court, and might have been a sort of legal term. A devil figure also appears in the book of Job, which starts off with a truly bizarre scene of God and the devil making bets on how far you can push a guy before he loses his faith. In Genesis, however, the serpent in Eden must, in fact, have been a Snake Goddess who, with the God figure, represented competing/conflicting belief systems within one region or ancient society. I've been studying this story for a long time, along with the Cain and Abel story which parallels the Sumerian story of the courtship of Inanna (when she is asked to choose between a farmer and a shepherd; she prefers the shepherd/pastoralist, just as the Biblical creator-god prefers the sacrifice of Abel the shepherd). Several years ago, I wrote a rather rough article on this subject and posted it at my website at http://www.angelfire.com/folk/karivox/litmarket/genesis.html , should anyone be curious...
[Infoburst: I found your article excellent. I am recommending it to others. This also enables me to alert everyone to the possibility of this thread being used as a double-think by fundamentalist agent provocateurs who use gauged argument in order to weaken the resolve of people they think need turning from their evil ways! Your article is a good antidote to that. BB Denise]

The Book of Genesis is known to follow closely the Sumerian
Epic of Gilgamesh wich includes the Great Flood (which was
local, not worldwide)
There are many parallel, even exact copies of sayings of
Gautama Buddha (500BC)later attributed to Jesus.
And what of the word 'God' or 'Lord' as the English translators
have it. That's a study in itself including the plural Elohim
who created the plural Adam "And Elohim (literally) created man in His own image, in the image of Elohim He created Him (the Adam, or earthling, literally); male and female He created them." Genesis 1:27
But let's not forget the awful barbarity of the Bible where a
woman must marry her rapist if raped, where a father may sell his daughter into slavery, the rape and murder comanded by God when
the Israelites stole nations in war. Some excellent resources with
stuff you won't believe,...JK

Shaitan (Satan) is a Thelemic Deity, being The Star God of The ancient Chaldeans, two of whom, Abram & Sara left, with followers, changing their names to Abraham, & Sarah. The rest is history. In Biblical terms, Shaitan,Satan, is not 'the Tempter', He is Prosecuter for The Crown; Godhead. To concur with your observation, the Bible states that, having a rough time keeping order, "Satan, sorely wounded, did rest apon His spear, and many Angels, good and true, did race to His aid" (As best I recall.) Further, was it not
Satan who bade 'Man know thyself' by giving of the tree of knowledge, that Man might know good and evil, with the freewill to choose His path? Thelemites, seeing satan in this light, see Him not
as enemy of Man, but friend! This is a very different concept to
The Church of Satan, they are entirely different to Thelemites. Thelema dosn't believe in 'the devil', it being a christian concept.
666, in qaballah, means Solar, or Son of God center;Tiphareth, as a Holy Trinity. Viewpoint. The Lord Shaitan! Holy is Thy Name!
I wonder how this thread will develop? Viewpoints.

Bible study for Pagans/Occultists/Satanists

Having been raised Christian I am surprised how little I ever knew about the Bible, also I bet most Pagans/Occultists but for the adepts do not know how to read the Bible correctly and taking a Bible study course is hazardous as they're invariably based on some sect or another's dogmatic interpretation. As a Pagan, having recently read through the Bible and dozens of books on it was a daunting task to set myself, but I'm glad I did as I found out the following on the hot topics of Satan, Hell and 666, etc. If anyone is interested I can supply passage references, etc, otherwise I hope this may be of interest to the average Pagan/Occultist/Satanist
Satan does not exist, OK we all know that, but not only doesn't he exist, but even the Bible read intelligently supports that Fact.
Satan means adversary and in the Bible is used as a name for persons or angels caused by God to oppose someone. Get that. Satan does not act except on the express orders of God. (I'm not supporting literal Bible truth here, just reading it as it actually reads without Church interpretation).
Satan nowhere in the Bible is a personal name for one being. It is a Title, a description. Lucifer is not Satan, Satan is not Lucifer and neither of them are the Devil. The verse of scripture used to support Lucifer being a 'fallen angel' is actually a reference to a person, the King of Tyre who is likened to the Morning star (Venus/Lucifer). Jesus Christ is also called the Bright Morning Star (Lucifer).
Jews do not believe in a personal Devil. They know their own scriptures better, the Devil is the invention of the Church.
The Beast 666 refers to the Roman Empire at the time of St John's imprisonment, and to the Emperor Nero. It is the number of a man. Some ancient scriptures actually calculate it as 616.
uch use of numbers & symbols was essential to early Christians not to be caught down-talking the authorities. The belief in a coming antichrist Satanic world government is a very modern one among Christians. Until quite recently the trend was to read the book of Revelation as a record of things that were in the past, written in symbols. Martin Luther actually wanted the entire book
of Revelation left out of the protestant canon as he doubted its validity. Later protestants ascribed 666 to the dynasty of Popes. Only recently has it passed to Satan himself.
Hell is another place the Bible doesn't mention. The word Hell when you see it in the Bible is translated either from the word Gehenna (fire for burning rubbish) or Hades (state of the dead). Gehenna was a rubbish heap outside the City walls, symbolizing separation from the City or separation of the dead
from God. Eternal burning torment is not a scriptural idea but an invention of the Church. early Christians believed that after death they would sleep until the resurrection as with non Christians also. They did NOT believe they would fly off to heaven. They believed in an eventual renewed Earthly paradise
in a new body.
