A very thorough explanation Denise, thank you. I am merely a beginner so your update was very helpful. I assumed everything wanted to be 'clean' for each rite. Does the same go for alter cloths as that does get quite dirty.

[Infoburst: Hi, As with everything in magic it depends on what your intent is. Most witches and magicians consider all of their work as a sequential development of their spirit therefore will want to keep the 'contagion' of energies in all their rites, just as they will also want to keep a magical diary of what they did and what the results were. Thus initiates will not wash their altar cloths frequently if at all. They certainly wouldn't wash them with a purifying liquid such as Chinese Wash. However, if you are just performing the occasional magic spell for a particular purpose then it doesn't matter so much if your altar cloth or robe has been psychically attenuated through washing - but I still wouldn't use Chinese Wash in the water. ;-) BB Denise W. ]

Hi Kimball, I have wondered the same in the past both with robes and my alter cloth. I have added a couple of capfuls of chinese wash in the machine with my usual powder in the past.

[Infoburst: Hi Kimball, Anonymous, There's some confusion in your answer. Chinese Wash is a purifying concoction. It helps absorb and cleanse all psychometric vibrations from the objects washed with it.

Chinese Wash is ideal for purifying your magical tools or anything else which has been desecrated (e.g. touched by the profane or contracted negative energies). For instance, if you give Runic readings and someone with a very negative future handles and casts the runes you can clean them afterwards with Chinese Wash so they are pristine for a subsequent reading. A Robe washed in water with some Chinese Wash added will therefore be stripped of all its psychometric vibrations and come out completely psychically clean. This may be useful in some instances but items worn in the circle will contract and compound the energies summoned and most Witches and Magicians will seek to keep those energies, thus will in normal circumstances not use Chinese Wash in the wash water for the robe. This is why robes are rarely washed and why most experienced magicians/witches go for Black or Dark Brown robes instead of white ones (which obviously show the dirt more!). So washing infrequently is the key and Marabas recommends applying removable talismans, amulets and decorations to the robe at the start. These will then contract the energies from your workings in the same way as the robe, and you can take the sigils/amulets off before washing. When you put them back on again afterwards the robe will be 'in tune' with your magic again. BB Denise W.
