Any Occultist should/would suggest that you believe only what YOU want to believe, this is the point of Occultism - it is for the individual to discover his/her path/system/Wyrd. So rituals that are good for one person are not good for all.

As a lot of people have been brought up with the Nazarene sickness and guilt regarding sex and sexuality, it is understandable that there may be underlying 'issues' in regards to a discussion or view of sex magick.

To me - and perhaps, from reading your post, also to yourself? - sex magick is just another system. I hear that it is powerful and the Society of Dark Lily (who influenced me a lot) said that its main purpose is that of speed, whereby it can replace long-term meditation or spiritual retreats by accessing the subconscious in a much shorter space of time.

But, the point of sex magick is not as an excuse for sex but using sex as a vehicle for spiritual/psychological change. Obviously then, you need to be honest enough to know if you are just after some alternative sex (nothing wrong with that if you are), or if you are genuinely attempting to use sexual energy for spiritual change.

As for dangers, personally, I believe that the Occult really is dangerous. Changing your perspective from the microcosmic (human) to the macrocosmic (galactic) is an intense experience that will never leave you: "you cannot wedge the door shut once it's open" to paraphrase a UK Satanist.

Also, one reason that there is a lot of talk about psychological stability in the Occult is because if a person who is unstable starts practicing magic and begins to draw forth energy, then this energy may increase that instability. Do some sleep deprivation exercises to see how your energy levels change and how this effects your personality(ies).

Anyway, I think other Occultists will put this in different terminology acording to their own system and understanding, but the gist is: if you play with fire be prepared to get your hand burnt.

Anyway, as I come from a Left Hand Path background, I tend to say: it's your life, just accept responsibility for what you do and don't blame others if it all goes to shit! :)
