	Hi Denise Yes it does sound as though I may be getting the two mixed up (such is the way when you don’t know too much about a subject!). I am more interested in the shamanic shape shifting side, probably incorporating hallucinogens (peyote, fly agaric etc). From a northern European perspective – Norse (Berserkers etc) or Celtic specifically. I thought that the medieval witch trials did have a grain of truth though? Can you suggest any books that SA might have in stock that might help? Thanks Paul

	Hi All I am researching shapeshifting. Can anyone help me with the ingredients required for the magic salve in such rites? Or any books that might be of use? Do SA have any info/lessons/books? By 'Magic Salve' I am supposing you are referring to traditional Flying Ointments? If so then you've confused things. M says that most recipes for Flying Ointments were gleaned from witch-trials and are suspect. Usually containing powerful narcotic drugs such as Henbane, Aconite, Datura and a carrier ointment of fat (fat carries the active ingredients into the bloodstream). These plants were common constituents of natural anaesthetics used to limit pains when setting bones etc. They were also highly hallucinogenic if taken internally and aided in both astral visions, clairvoyance,trials of strength etc. The problem with them is that the active ingredients are SO toxic and the raw materials so varied in potency that users can poison themselves. For example. M says a tenth of a gram of aconite root will kill a rat dead in ten seconds. A tenth of a gram is a very, very,very small amount. SO BE SENSIBLE AND DON'T TRY IT! It would be illegal for any occult shop to sell such a thing and if you see Magical Salves or Flying Ointments listed it is a good indication that the purveyors are either Snake Oil salesmen or worse. Shape shifting on the other hand is a magical method of evoking the mamilian brain to link with the intelligence of another creature. Ancient shamans did this before a hunt to anticipate the decisions and whereabouts of their prey and it is also part of the totem-tribal system. Marabas has not yet written about this because it is highly compex and too easily misunderstood by the non-initiated. BB DeniseW]
