Schizophrenia is a fractionalising of the personality which often includes auditory hallucinations. It is a highly disturbing and frightening phenomenon which can disable the sufferer from living a normal life and is therefore a genuine mental illness. The way that the sufferer INTERPRETS his or her own schizophrenia always involves CONFABULATION of imaginings and experiences which have come within their scope.
You don't for instance get European schizoprenics complaining that the arch-demon Ngworekara is
controlling their minds but you might do if the patient was born in and spent his or her formative years in Cameroon, Africa. Thus in an attempt to make sense of their experiences schizophrenics who have begun to suffer the illness recently will naturally seize upon those things which society and the media has represented to them as the Most Frightening which, over the past twenty years has been the myth of Satanic Ritual Child Abuse. Undoubtedly the patient's 'realisation' is unconscious but probably there is an element of using SRA as an excuse to exonerate themselves from the stigma of this illness and to qualify for extra help. The point is that just because a schizophrenic says they have been satanically abused doesn't mean they have. Long before SRA was promoted many schizophrenics began to believe that their minds were being taken over by Aliens from outer-space because the Media had pushed the bandwagon of Stephen Spielberg's Close Encounters of The Third Kind into the mass mindset in 1977.
The SAFF is not closed to the idea of investigating accusations of abuse, in fact we insist on it. What we criticise is the pre-judged pro-active hunting down of supposed satanic abusers as a separate and more heinous form of child abuse. There has never been any cases over a twenty year period which have in any way supported this idea which was dreamed up from the minds of Christian agitators to enable them to marginalise alternative and minority beliefs and retake command over the minds of nominal Christians to frighten them into compliance so the fundies could take back control of our society using Biblical writ. As we make clear on SAFF pages SRA is a major Christian strategy to counter liberal reforms concerning single-parents, homosexual marriages, abortion, genetics, eugenics, free-love etc., and has little to do with saving children from harm.
We insist on the highest professionalism from all therapists, hypnotists and medical professionals, many of whom are sectarians who go against their hipocratic oath and allow their patients to indulge in fantasies which should really be attenuated in order to provide 'evidence' and emotional blackmail which supports and promotes their own sectarian views. That is not proper treatment and lucky888 should consider whether he/she would be better off asking for a 2nd opinion diagnosis before she falls into the hands of some enterprising satan-hunters who may ruin his/her life completely. i have had schizophrenia for 10 years, i have had voices on my mobile that i taped and gave to police. i have had tactiles of molestation (from father ) for 4 years, they were preceded by dreams of him in an occult circle and saying he could kill me, i have had messages in a visual form of a group of abusers and the victims , i dont recall any abuse when i was little but if another survivor goes to report their experiences it may just be investigated, i am not saying i am a victim just i might be, to say there isnt a link between sra and schizophrenia -well do you have proof it doesnt exist? i dont
