Len, As for the Blocking Lindsey and a few others were made aware of the "situation" and it was addressed.

Len, I'll fill you in on the blocking stuff this weekend.

If this thing is supposed to be mentor type program, then maybe we should do this in a "non-team" way. Certain types of competition are good, but I think in this situation, we have enough competition just being on track as a group.

Done as a mentor type, non-team, non-points thing, it sort of becomes like the vintage racing guys. They have races and somebody wins, but there are no trophies or points or championships, just bragging rights.

As for my ride for the weekend, it is a red car # 7. I used to race a 63 VW, but I havn't raced one of those in a long, long time. Maybe some day before I die I will have enough time to get my VW track worthy again.

Come by our pit and see Lindsey Lohan. She will be the one with the big.....well, we can't say that here.

Tony, I don't really see where a team thing would help the slower drivers. As soon as the track goes green the fast guys are going to go fast and run away. We don't have enough practice sessions to show someone else the way around, so each lap of a session is critical in getting yourself up to speed no matter what level you are running at.

I don't think we have ever had an issue with paddock space at any event, except for trying to get into the garages at Pocono.

I see both sides here, but I personally think it would benefit everyone in the end, especially if it is set up more as a "mentor" type thing. It will bring us less experienced formula car drivers up to speed quicker, makes us safer, and raise the level of competition. One of the downsides is if one of the "teammates" cant make a race or two, it puts more pressure on the other driver, which could create some ill will within the "team". Maybe go with 3 drivers/team (or 4?) to help avoid that. I dont know if you guys ever have any paddock space issues (shortage) becuase I havent run with you yet, but I know with the SCCA MARRS events, paddick space is always an issue (especially at Summit Point), so you can save some space by putting 3 cars in two paddock spaces. All in all, I think it would be a very positive thing as long as the proper "rules" are put into place.
My $.02...
Tony

I heard it is #53, a '63 VW Beetle, called Herbie, with Lindsey Lohan (I wish) as crew chief.

fran,

i never thought of this in the respects you put forth. i guess it is food for thought.

i saw it more as a mentor system like amborse said, the faster guy showing the slower guy around the track, how and why they do what they do. many people in our group have done this with me on a more informal manner, and i fully believe that is how i became a better driver. the theory behind it being the faster everyone is, the better the racing, and the friendly we are together the safer!!

as far as blocking goes, i have never seen this on track. i agree some drivers could use their mirrors a bit better, or just need to stay on line instead of trying to make it easier for us to pass and or lap them. but i must ask, and you can certainly contact me off line, who did you experience blocking from?? do you really believe it was intentional, did you talk to them about the incident, if so what was the response, and why didnt the rest of the group know about this? i would think that to be a fairly serious offense, especially in our fairly close knit group of drivers. certainly i would like to know exactly what happened and who was involved.

I have to agree with FA6 on this one. Last year we did experiance some instances of "blocking" that had an impact on the race results. If the team thing is put into play, how long will it take before the slow team members become moving chicanes to protect the finishing positions of the faster team members? Once a BAD relationship is started, it will have consequences that last for years.

I agree w/len, it could only help build relationshoips and help some of the newer drivers along. If you do this I suggest breaking the drivers into two groups, experianced, less experianced. You then take the names and put them into two hats and build a team of one each.

Maybe you go so far as assigning names to the team (Also at Random), maybe from the Current Formula One Roster. I'm sure everyone is anxious to be FPR Team Super Aguri Racing... LOL

Lindsey, at the onset "Team Competition" within FPR sort of worries me. Unlike other sanctioning bodies we within FPR & EMRA are all friends. I'm worried that the Team Mentality may cause conflicts on and off the Track.
Has their been any thinking about how the Rookie Challange will work.

Sounds good... anything that incentivizes people to come to events. You may want to consider building the teams at random, drawing the name out of a hat. This force people who would normally not interact with each other to interact.

There is a proposal to start a TEAM Competition within the FPR season competiton. Drivers could form teams of 2-4 drivers and compete for individual points as well as for a team Championship. Rules to be decided. Anyone interested?
