ohh... BTW, the problem causing the oil and water to mix, is a bit of a mystery. However, he did note that the head bolts, were not staying torqued... most likely cause of problem.

Thanks for the advice guys... after a carrier delay in shiping the engine to Elite, they have it and are in the process of starting to re-build it. Not cheap, but know it will be done right, and should have HP in the same range as most of you guys (+/- a HP or two). Might be tight to make teh east course, but the big track definatly looks doable....

Thanks for the advice...

We just replaced the head gasket and properly torqued it down, unfort that did not solve the problem. Visual inspection showed nothing. We did the fluid test, was mildly positive. It may still be the head that is cracked, however at this point it probably been run close to a hr with water/oil mixed so I suspect at least the bearings need a preper inspection. Might as well do it right way and pull the motor and have a pro look at it. Exploring options now...

Are you sure the block is cracked and its not just a head gasket? Chances are the head is cracked and not the block. Before shipping it off, why not pull the head and see what you have? The most common place for cracks is between the valve seats and the spark plug holes. The result of this is that the engine runs fine when it is cold, but when the temperture comes up, it pumps out all the water and overheats. NAPA sells a "Block Check" device that will tell you if you have exhaust gas in the coolant. You just fill it with the magic fluid, run the engine, put the block checker in the radiator cap hole and squeeze the ball to pull air through the fluid. If it turns colors, you have a leak. This device costs about $40 and most NAPA stores have it on the shelf. Just ask for the "block check" If you need to ship it, you need to either block it with 2 x 4's and build a box around it, or build a stand to mount it in and then build a box that fits tight around your stand. Just about any truck freight company will pick it up for you and deliver it. Even FedEx has a ground service for heavy items.
