Thanks for the info Nial. My computer has McAfee antivirus and checks all attachments for virus before opening. Many of us are not as computer savy as you are and appreciate the warning. If a virus came up from my email I do apologize sincerely. Alice

To All:

Some of you are on my e-mail list....and I'm sure many of you are on each other's e-mail lists at this point. In the last few weeks, my e-mail "firewall" has been stopping a fair number of virus-infected messages. I'm not sure what the source of these virus-infected messages are, but I would warn you to be careful, just in case it's someone in our e-mail "loop".

Personally, I use two strategies to reduce virus problems on my computer.

1). I use the lastest virus protection software with monthly updates (I use "Norton", but I'm sure the other products are good too).
2). I NEVER open e-mail attachments unless I get a note AHEAD OF TIME explaining the purpose of the attachment. This includes picture attachments (usually "jpg") and text attachments (Usually "MS Word doc" files).

I would suggest the same strategy to all of you. You will never get an unrequested attachment from me...and if you get an attachment from others in this group, the safest thing to do is to delete without opening. On a related topic, some attachments can be quite large (especially picture-attachments). Some people do not have a "broadband" internet connection (including me). A large picture attachment can "lock up" a slower computer for a much as 10 minutes...no fun, especially if you're just doing to delete it anyway.

Don't get me wrong....I encourage you to write back and forth to others using e-mail.....it's fun, easy and cheap! But please avoid sending or opening any attachments.....it's the best way to reduce the chance of virus-related problems.

Actually, this message board should cut down on any virus problems (since it's impossible to get a computer virus from a message board of this type).
