Hey Pam, I've tried to email you a couple of times. Not sure if you'll remember me. My only claim to fame is when my horse fell on me and I spent the last part of senior year in a wheelchair and then crutches.

Robin,
Please give Scott my best when you talk with him next. I remember him in Mr. Fix's Geometry class. I hated geometry, but remember that Scott always added some humor to the class.

Alice:

Scott went into the Army when he was 34 years old. After Scott graduated from Colorado State Univ, he did some odd jobs and did a bit of teaching. He got a part in a movie if you remember "One on One" with Robbie Benson (small part) and then moved on to California to seek his dream. Scott did "this and that" while he went to auditions, typical for bidding actors. He did get a few opportunities in bit parts and commericials but not enough for him so he made this big decision to go into the Army at "34". Scott had always stayed in shape so he was halfway there. Scott joined and signed up for "Airborne". He did well and went to the 101st airborne then over to Germany in the 80's and worked for a Major who was in the Green Berets. This Major recommended Scott for the Berets (now 38 years old) and he went back to the Special Forces training facility in Fayettville for SP training (keep in mind he's "38" when he began this training). Low and behold he made it, I went to his graduation in 1988. Scott retired from the enlisted ranks as an E-7. Enlisted was best for him since he went in at a later age. The Special Forces career kept Scott out of town most of the time and he divorced somewhere in the early 90's. He has two childern, his son is 20 and his daughter is 17. Scott received his Masters degree last September and retired from the Army this past February. He was offered a position as a civilian in Afganistan and has been over there since May. This is a very Quick Bio, Scott has never let the grass grow under his feet and has always seeked that different road.

Scott retired from the Army's Special Forces this past February. He was with the 5th group Special Forces stationed out of Ft. Cambell KY. He was contacted in March to work as a civilian in Afganistan on yearly contracts. That is what he is doing there. I am not sure what he does, but he does e-mail me periodically, I will let him know, he will appriciate your interest and best wishes.

I remember Scott as being a gentle giant, and a jock, he went out with my cousin, Lucy Mendez for a brief period back in the day. Well, I wish him well, and lots of luck, where ever he is, he was a gentleman, and I'm quite certain he still is.

Yes, Scott is my brother we lived on Connecticut Concourse and Aldridge Road, across from the Rainey's, who still live there. Scott is alive and well and doing something in Afganistan. In remembering operations, Scott cut his chin playing football and received 6 or 8 stitches. He removed them himself in front of the mirror on Saturday morning so he could play in the game.

you wouldn't happen to have a brother named Scott by chance, would you?
I have a cousin Bruce Morrow, but I think back in the 50's and 60's if you listened to 101 cbs fm or 10-10 wins, everyone had a cousin named Bruce Morrow.

Robin,
the interesting part to that operation is that it only resulted in a tiny scar below my knee, I live in Florida, had it been here, in the E.R room, they would have hacked off the wrong leg. The worst part of the whole episode was trying to keep it from my parents, back then, parents would double dip, they would punish you and on top of your injury they would beat your butt for extra credit. Have a great weekend.
Oscar.

Oscar: It is amazing what most kids did back then, the operation story is great! I'm sure that alot of what we got into back in the 50's and 60's would not be legal today considering all of the new laws that have been written over the past 35 years.

Oscar, you guys are dang lucky to be alive today. It is amazing you survived to be almost 50. Reminds me of this new commercial on tv. It will be a miracle if the kid lives to be 10, 18, 21. Very Very funny. But sounds like you had a fun childhood. You are right both parents had to work and you were lucky if they did not find out what happened when they got home.

Hey Charlie,
I remember those bikes with no brakes going down that hill, I put my two next door naighbors kids in a big baby coach and sent them down the hill, and all you can see was their head bobbing all over the place, that was nuts. I'm suprised anyone remembered Terry Brown, he gave me a hair cut one time, and it looked really nice and when I got home, the back was half shaved and half not, and I went to his house and gave his bike a flat and he came to my house and gave me two flats, after we wrecked each others bikes we started laughing at the hair cut. I remember Jay Sloan went down that hill and we blind folded him. We use to do crazy things back then. I remember Julio the bus driver one time towing us in this cabinet we found, tied it to his car and me Jay and Charlie were in the cabinet on this dirt gravel road, and it flipped over and I got this rock stuck in my legs, and instead of calling my parents, they took me to Jay's house and laid me on the dining room table and with a steak knife and peroxide, removed the rock, it was like an operation performed by the three stooges, parents never knew, back then if your parents found out about things like that, they would remove the rock then make you eat it for being so dumb. I remember when I was really small, I found some shot gun shells that belonged to my older brother and hitting them with a hammer to make them go off, if one of them ever were hit in the right place, I wouldn't be writing now. Charlie and I found this tv in the woods and we brought it out to the road and threw it up in the air, and the explosion it made had every one out looking, there was glass as far as the eye could see, they had to call the county to sweep it, I'm surprise we can talk about it, there were no child proof devices back then, and both your parents worked most of the time, so we got into every thing, just never got in trouble with the law, just stupid things that took no thoughts.
Hey nice going back,
Oscar.

Wow! Oscar you're the man! Nial is right, you should write a Jackson Trivia book. But you really put a spark in the old memory bank. By the way, do you remember riding unassembled old bikes down some hills behind Terry Brown's house? How crazy were we? I remember the wheels weren't bolted to the frames, and the wheels had no tires. Terry, My brother Roy, Jay Sloan, Charlie G., Me, and you I think rode those things.
Some great fun. Jackson is a wonderful place!

Oscar, you got me it was the Cross Roads Diner. My wedding was about $2100 and she counted out Quarters, singles, and 5s. That woman worked hard. Had 6 kids.a disabled husband and she never complained. I sure do miss her.

Alice: Was it the County Line Diner, I remember the Cross Roads Diner across the street from the cemetary, I wonder if it was the same one. I know up the street was the Regent Diner owned by Harry Regent. Wow, your mom must have worked hard to have that wedding. Remember when wedding's were like 4 or 5 thousand dollars, that doesn't even pay for the gown and flowers and limo's now.
Two Guys: They started out in Harrison, N.J, remember ever hearing '' Two Guys from Harrison? Bradford house was the dishes they used at the snack bar in W.T Grants, remember in Lakewood it was Grants, then Two Guys, don't know if any thing is there now. I know Jamesway was across the street, went by there a couple of months ago, and it was all boarded up, looks like parts of Asbury Park. I remember in the 60's we use to go to Asbury Park and ride the circuit and meet every one at the Stone Pony, or the board walk, it's such ashame the way it looks now, maybe the Boss Bruce will turn back the hands of time some day.

Who remembers the County Line Diner on County Line Rd in Lakewood, my Mom worked there many yrs. Paid for my first wedding with her tips. We had one of those ringer washers before moving to Jackson. Our phone # was 364-6562. Do you remember when Jersey had only 2 area codes. 609 & 201.

Oscar continues to write (in part):
>Ok question, can anyone tell me what a party line was

Yes, party lines generally extended along a single street. You could pick up the phone and, instead of dial tone, hear someone else's conversation. My mother used to hear some nasty things said about her by the others on our street. We didn't get private lines until the early sixties (like 60 or so).

>what S&H green stamps did for you

You got S&H Green Stamps in Acme. You pasted them into booklets using water, turned your hands green, then found a way to redeem them for all sorts of stuff.

>What Jersey town were Two Guys from, the dept. store founder's?

I think Two Guys were from Fairfield. The corporate name I remember was Vornado, but I could be wrong.

>We use to go to Gelbstiens Bakery or Freedman's bakery, just to get rolls on Sunday.

We used to go to Gelbstein's much more often than Freedman's - Gelbstein's was there first. We used to get rye bread... And, oh, the danish and (especially) the cookies!

>remember in the mid 60's Johnny Cash went to Rac's Hut, I guess that is where he came up with the name for his song '' Going To Jackson''.

I believe the song was written about Tennessee, but I could be wrong. I'll have to hunt down the lyrics.

>I still remember my phone number when I live in Cassville, Platou 8-5709 it was a PL8 extention belong to the plumstead township exchange, then we had a 928 exchange on the other side, so to call the kitchen from the living room, there was a 20 cent fee. I know the other side of Jackson had 363 and 364 exchanges.

First phone number I remember was FOxcroft 3-5587; which later became 363-5578. When we moved around the corner, our number went to a 928 exchange. It's still weird to see Jackson numbers with 370 and 920 exchanges.

Actually, I have a REALLY GOOD Jackson schools-related trivia question, but I don't have a complete answer for it. (Shocking, isn't it? )

Hey Walt:

Our lake house is in Cranberry Lake (off Rt. 206), not too far from Wantage....I had a long commute from that house to Essex County for almost 10 years...nowadays, I have a10 mile commute, which isn't too bad.
Sussex County has a definite rural character with cow, cornfields, etc....once in a while, I still go to Springdale Farmer's Market (on 206). It reminds me of New Egypt in the 60s.
The only real time I get up to Sussex Boro is when I fly into Sussex Airport....but I don't get any farther than the airport diner. I know the airport owner (Paul Styger) reasonably well....I feel bad that I wasn't free to go to his last air show recently. From the air, Sussex is real nice, with farms, hills and so forth. I have a webpage of aerial photos I've taken of Sussex County. It's listed below (there's no auto links on this site, so you'd have to write it down and type it in to the address area.....or copy/paste):

http://npmccabe.tripod.com/aeropics.htm

Oscar: The only answer I can remember is "Two Guys From Harrison".....and I remember the Estonian club because there was a little airport near it (closed now). I took flight lessons there for a while.

Helena: There's no end to Oscar's questions....right? He needs to write a Trivial Pursuit book about Jackson.

Oscar writes (in part):
>Sonny Fox and the Sandy Becker hour, on Saturday mornings.

Actually, Sonny Fox had two shows on weekends. One was "Just For Fun" on Saturdays; in which there was a Blue Team and a Gold Team. The other show was "Wonderama" on Sunday mornings. I remember Sandy Becker being on during the week, but he may have also been on during weekends, too.

>Does any one remember Patty Dukes brother's name?

Patty Duke's brother's name was Ross, played by Paul O'Keefe. Believe it or not, I learned a lot of my Washington, D.C. trivia from a paperback book called "Patty Goes To Washington," in which Patty's father is assigned to write a bunch of articles for his newspaper (he was areporter) and the kids all have assignments - at least the girls did. Ross just seemed to make trouble, as kid brothers often did. :) But there was a lot of good factual stuff that I still cite to this day.

On to Oscar's next bunch of questions... :)

Ok question, can anyone tell me what a party line was, what S&H green stamps did for you, and do you remember your parents buying soap powder in a box, and sometimes you get dishes in them, my mom still has a complete set of those, think I will pay e-bay a visit.
What Jersey town were Two Guys from, the dept. store founder's? Does the name Bradford House mean anything to anyone.
Did anyone ever go to Buxton's ice-cream parlor in Lakewood by Two Guys? We use to go to Gelbstiens Bakery or Freedman's bakery, just to get rolls on Sunday.
I remember in the mid 60's Johnny Cash went to Rac's Hut, I guess that is where he came up with the name for his song '' Going To Jackson''. Anyone remember the Aligator inn, the Lakewood Meat Market, the Astonian Club, Kapps Corner, Willies Corner, A bar C ranch camp ground in Cassville, Tip Tam camp ground. Anyone ever see the infamous Jersey Devil. Any of the guys ever put playing cards on the spokes of you bike to make it sound like an engine with a clothes pin. Anyone remember those old washing machine's that had those exterior duel ringer's we all got curious about and wanted to put your hand through it.
I still remember my phone number when I live in Cassville, Platou 8-5709 it was a PL8 extention belong to the plumstead township exchange, then we had a 928 exchange on the other side, so to call the kitchen from the living room, there was a 20 cent fee. Darren & Samantha's nosiey neighbor was Mrs Kravits. Mr & Mrs Brady slept in one bedroom, 3boys in another, 3 girls in the third. Alice the maid slept in a bedroom off the kitchen. Maids quaters. that is how most expensive homes in Ca are built.
