Charlie: Do you remember the band, The Motiffs from Howell, they use to win all the battle of the bands. I remember this friend of mine, Denise Fredette, she use to be the go-go dancer for Joe Peserchio's band, you had to have a go-go dancer back then to be in the rankings. Do you remember a guy name Andy Zemetti, he use to play bass guitar for a high school band as well, forgot the name though, any way, if you remember Andy, he lives in the next town from me, in Port Richey Fl.
I remember Pat Barretts band, use to sit and watch them practice. She use to sing '' Going to The Chapel'' by the Dixie Cups, that was the original, and '' You Were on My Mind'' by the We Five the originals.

Yes, I remember Mrs. Moore, she was very dainty, get it, ok, just being silly, but I do remember her, she wore glasses, and shoulder length straight black hair, with bangs, how is that for remembering.
Yes, Lydia Barcello lived up the street from me, she has a sister Evelyn. Her dad was a bus driver for the Jackson school district, wonder what ever happened to her, perhaps, Alice may know, Lydia was a 68 grad, she use to date a buddy of mine Charlie Gargayo from Cassville as well. The church your referering to was St. Anthony's Claret, Nial and I and lots of other young christians made our first communion at that church.
By the way, did you ever go to the Hailey Building in Lakewood by the Lake Wood Lake less known as Lake Carasaljo?
We went there in fith grade because Jackson's schools were maxed out.
That retired doctor was a nice little Russian lady, I remember her. Do you remember Ed Norton's garage by the other barber shop in Cassville? It was going down the hill by Landies little general store. There was a little post office by you, not the one that is there now, but a tiny one that was almost on the road, with the horse shoe drive-way.
I still even remember the father of the church, Father Lopez, tall slender man.
What grade did you move away?

I was given this address by our fellow classmate, Judy Moses (Carrig). What a trip down memory lane is was to read your emails! Especially about Joe Mina and the Soundwaves, my next door neighbor. Pam, I will always remember the car you drove to OCC--the orangish one with the fins! My family loves classic cars and I always think of you when I see one. What are you folks doing these days and where do you live? I went to the 30th reunion but don't remember seeing you. Can't wait to get home and pull out my yearbook!

Hi Charley -- Ok..now I remember when you lived (I think) behind that garage there was a dirt road and part of that road ran parallel to the main road. There were quite a few houses back there......we use to visit a little old lady that lived in a trailer ... we called her Granny Gantz...she was an old retired doctor...she was really old and one day the police were called because she was running around naked in her front yard (of course back then they didn't know what to call alzheimers . Yes....your right...there was a store across from my Dad's...once a week we would get an allowance and go right over to Ivan's and spend it all on candy, Wise potato chips (which you can't get where I live) and cream soda from one of those old coke coolers that had water in it to keep the soda cold.
I remember the houses where you lived across from Mary's. And I remember your Uncle Ed, I think he use to come into my Dad's garage. Debbie Weber sounds familiar...I am thinking that I might have known her. We really did live in a small town back then...My sister and I road to the old high school a few years ago...I could not believe it..there was a second story (we use to have health class in the stair well that they were now using to get to the second floor)..and out front there were security vehicles and when we walked up to the doors (it was summer and the doors were locked) an alarm sounded...it was amazing how it had changed!

I don't remember if Mr.Raskin spit in his hanky or not...I do remember how fascinated I was because he could type without looking at the keys on his typewriter...I thought that was very magical (haha). I had him in 4th grade and then he moved on to fifth grade with us. Do you remember Mrs. Moore? I had her in 3rd grade..she was really nice too. My 6th grade teacher was Mrs. Ginnane (sic). Mrs. Holman really scared me!!!! (I do remember seeing a kid w/a tilted head...just kidding) A few years ago when I was visiting Jackson, my sister and I took a ride around town and stopped at Switlik..it was during the summer and the school was open (they were doing some kind of construction work) so we went inside and walked around...it looked exactly the same as it did when we went there. Even Mrs. Holman's office looked the same! We moved from Cassville when I was still very young so I don't remember your sister or the other names you mentioned, but I use to go over to Evelyn Barcelo's house in my teens. And I use to go to the Catholic church in Cassville with my neighbors (Pete & Del Byk) for a few years. I do remember Maria Santos and Nick Aspres, but I think more from school than from Cassville. I vaguely remember the names...Mr.Maroni and Mr. Merri were they teachers at Switlik? Did you ever go to summer recreation at Switlik? Mr. Raskin use to be over that and he would bring his box dogs..one was named Heidi....and he would give all the kids rides on this arm...we would hold on and he would swing us around until we were so dizzy we couldn't walk...

Hi Pam.. Wow all this Cassville stuff is really jogging the memory! Yes at one time we did ride the same bus. I lived down the road from you in a little house behind some little old garage. I remember your dad's garage. And I think there was a store across the street named Ivan's? I also remember when I lived almost across the street from your cousin Mary Ann on Leming Rd. My Uncle Ed also had a house next door to us. You might remember my cousins Debbie & David Weber? Then I moved out to Stump Tavern Rd? (sherry park) out near Oscar & Nial. I used to pick blueberries once in awile at your families farm too. Wow, this is all too much too remember for an old guy! Hey Oscar! I remember all those great teachers. And I can remember being chased a few times by Maria Santos' big mean German Shepard dogs. Pat Barrett's band was the "Soundwaves" with Joe Mina, & John Manna. When they broke up I joined them and we went by Dark Shadows & then the Ups & Downs. I know Peserchio had a good band but can't remember their names. I know we always went to see the Links & Chains from Howell, and Dana Sprinkle's boyfriend Doug CLayton had an awesome band called "Six Pac".

Yes, Barbara Finn was one of my favorites, she was my 3rd grade teacher, she broke my heart one time when she came in with her boy friend and told the class that they would soon marry. My sister had Mr Raskin, I remember, didn't he sometimes spit in his hanky, he was tall and slender, some times sported a goat-tee, nice Jewish fellow. Do you remember Mrs Cuchiera that was her married name, blonde young girl, she was Barbara Finns best friend. Do you remember Mrs. Elms, they had many a.k.a's for her, if you remember those and you lived in Cassville then you must remember my sister Margie Olmeda, and Lucy Mendez, the latina posse from Cassville, and Loraine Ocasio, Debbie and Laurie Monesson. My favorite teachers in high school were Mr. Bernie Rieder, Mr Jack Munley, and Mr. Peter DeMatteo they were just like the guys. Do you remember Marie Santos she lived in Cassville, across the street from that little park with three swing sets and a sliding board, and two garbage cans, that was the park of Cassville. You lived by Park Ave. I think that Nick Aspres and he had a brother also lived there. Wow, go girl, your really keen on the memory bank. I graduated in 70, so you may not find me in too many year books, just the grad year one. I was just a good student, didn't do much of the jock thing, I was too chicken to get hurt.
Remember Mrs. Hollman, she pulled my ears so many times, I walked around with a tilted head. Remember Mr. Maroni he reminded me of Columbo with his trench coat, and Mr. Merri, his parents had a sewing factory by my house it was called '' Jeans Fine Neckwear'' that was going toward Collier's Mills lake, boarder line of Plumstead township and Jackson.

Hey Oscar....No, I don't remember Mrs. Engeled, but funny thing..I had Mrs. Davis' son in 7th grade. It might have been his first year teaching. That was in Switlik school. Do your remember Mrs. Teeter (1st grade)or Mr. Raskin (4th & 5th) They were my favorite teachers. I had a Mrs.Finn in 2nd grade, but she didn't like me. Kel's Dairy bar...I had forgotten that name. My friend Helena Weller worked there for a few summers when we were in our teens. Do you remember Gleb Botkin (the Russian Czar's doctors son?) he lived somewhere near where I lived and tried to teach my dad russian. I don't remember Betty Gibson...I don't think I was on Nial's bus, but on Charley Webbers bus. I lived less than a mile from Kel's Dairy bar on 571, but moved way before Kel's was built. I was friends with Bonnie VanArsdale and use to visit her house all the time when I was younger. Her dad had the garbage truck route. We would go and visit all her relatives that lived behind her on that dirt road.

Alice -- Yes, I do remember your brother...of course I had to get out the old year book to make the connection...He signed my yearbook...I wish I could remember the circumstances surrounding his remark...but I can't...he said something about..'someone to drag up the hall' so no telling what happened there...I hope he is doing well...tell him I said hi when you talk to him again...(maybe he will remember me, so much time has passed).

wow, we are going way back, it's really funny, I can remember what I did when I was 3 years young, I chased my moms chickens all over the place, never could catch them though. Julio moved to North Carolina last year, his wife Marie still drives buses so she has very little time before she retires, but she didn't start driving till the 70's. You went to the Larson fire house dances, I never missed one, they use to have battle of the bands there, it was next to camp Joy, or C.Y.O. I remember Pat Barrett and Joe Pasershio, Andy Zemetti all had bands that played at the dances.
My kindergarden teach was named Mrs. Engeled, very older women, like 70's in age, very nice, in fact I still have my class picture in tact from that school, now I would flip out if any one remembers her name. Mrs. Davis I remember well, I think she had a son that later taught in Jackson Jr. high, if i'm not mistaken.
We use to ride our bikes to '' Kel's Dairy Bar'' very good milk shakes and victory fries they made. They would only stay open during that summer and come to Florida for the winter.
Yes, those houses in Cassville were so close to the road, on a nice day, you can hear the passer by's conversation in the car. Remember that little bank they had in Cassville, I saved up enough money in that little bank to purchase my first vehicle. I keep in touch with lots of 69 grads, lots of friends from 69 grad year.
Do you remember Betty Gibson as a bus driver, she was mine for a while, if you were on Nials school bus, then you were on mine, because he was on mine as well. I lived almost across the street from Fanny's Market, or Luna's Market, it changed hands several times. Did you live by the Vanarsdales or Christina Dyzwonick?

Hi Oscar -- and all -- Mel Cottrell was my Uncle, Mary Ann is his daughter (my cousin)(she is no longer married to Tom Sloop). He & my Dad grew up on a farm off 526, I think on Leming Road. Part of the farm was a blueberry farm. I remember as a child the families (Uncle Mel's and my Dad's), we would all go help pick blueberries to take to market. Of course more blueberries would end up in our mouths than in the baskets. Uncle Mel died last October of complications from his diabetes...he was a great guy! I wondered what Julio's last name was. He was my bus driver for years....I really liked him...very nice person! I had forgotten about that barber shop until you just mentioned it....there was also a restaurant next door..we would eat there once in a while. I don't remember who had the restaurant, but my Mom and Dad knew them. Who was your kindergarten teacher at the old school? Mine was Mrs. Valentino (?) (I think that was her name..the other one was Mrs. Davis). I went swimming a couple of times there. I don't remember going to the any of the dances there, I use to go to the dances at the fire house, closer to the housing developments (Brookwood, etc). I did eat at Rova Farms in my Senior year...we went on a class trip -- Mr. White's History class...we ate a Russian meal! And then walked up to the Russian orthodox church. Remember Bird Village Road with all of the little white houses with little wooden blue birds on them? Yes..Jerry Shoal was fishing and his boat capsized and he drowned...that was the first viewing/funeral I went to. It was held at the old town hall/police station. Funny you should mention houses being close to the highway. Mine was close to the highway too. It was on 571 down a little ways from Francis Assay's house, on the left and the only one that set really close to the road. I never realized how close until I was older. It was still there last time I visited the area.

Hi Charley -- I remember you! My age is catching up with me...I have the '68 and '69 yearbooks right by my computer so I can look up all the names and try to make a connection with the pictures. Didn't we ride the same bus for a while? I think I remember the area where you lived, but I have been away from Jackson for so long it is hard to remember. I am looking at mapquest right now trying to figure this all out. Did you live on 528? After we moved from Cassville, I lived over in the Siloam area on Siloam Road, which is now Diamond Road, my Dad had a garage "Commodore's Garage." I had Julio for a bus driver and before that it was a women, but I can't remember her name.

Hi Ellen,
I didn't know you worked for Jersey Bell in Freehold, then you must have worked with Valerie Pesca and Sue Fitzpatrick, they were there around that time, and a friend Barbra Brooks also.
I was talking to Linda Barneman and she wants to get a hold of Linda Singer, so I'm trying to help her out, boy, Linda and John vanished. Have a great rest of the weekend Ellen, nice to hear from you, instead of just joke swaping.

Hi Pam,
I was from Cassville also, and I remember the school by Rova Farms going down the hill, I also went to Kinder., there. Do you have a relative named Mel Cottroll, big man, he was a good friend of my best friend at the time Julio Bonella that was also a bus driver. Mr. Brown was my bus driver who lived by Gail Garino and Ilene Johnson, by what could have been the only barber shop in Jackson at that time. Did you ever go to the Rova Farms dances at the pavillion, and roller skating, and swiming there? Well good to see another Jackson Cassville register.
Regards,
Oscar Olmeda. Jerry Shoal one of the first cops lived by the cranberry boggs and didn't he drown at a very young age fishing, wow so long ago, he lived on 528 in a two story green house that was right by the highway. Did it seem like all the old houses were so close to the highway there, or is it just because we were young, and it just seemed that way.
Did you have a relative named Mary ann Cottroll, she had long black hair and may have worn braces, very pretty girl.

Hey Pam, great memories. I also remember a little schoolhouse on the banks of Rova Farms. My brother & I used to walk to Burke's store all the time. I can still remember Mrs. Burke in the kitchen sometimes, and also remember when Walter & his wife Kathy ( I think ) took over. As a kid from Cassville you have to remember all those places and those people. Jerry Shoals and all! Things were sure different back then. Charley '68

Thanks Nial for the invite to this web site. I really enjoyed reading the message board at the classmates web site, but didn't have a gold membership so I couldn't respond. I really enjoyed reading about Cassville...it brought back a lot of memories. I lived in Cassville as a toddler and a lot of my relatives lived there. Burkes store was run by my 'Aunt Lennie' Burke many years ago. Franklin Brown the bus driver is my uncle. Francis Asey was ran the little post office in her house (next to the fire station), my Mom and her daughter Marion Luker were best friends. I also remembered the ice cream stand across from the fire house, many a summer evening our family would drive over and have ice cream! As a child I went to the Methodist church across from Burkes store. Does anyone remember the 2 room school house in Cassville, right next to the lake? I went to kindergarten there. Does anyone remember Jerry Shoals, the first police chief of Jackson?
