There are a couple of sounds that grab my attention and have a really somber effect on me -- a chopper flying by and "Taps". Here's one of the verses of Taps:
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky.
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
Take care, everybody.

Commo Check!! Commo Check!! I read you "Lima Charlie" Willy! Checking in with the website as instructed! How many are planning, or thinking about, going to this year's reunion? The only people registered so far are Jack Durham, Dennis Paugels, and Dennis Washburn. I assume Willy and John Grimes will be there. Have you heard of any others?

Dave you are absolutly right about there being a lot of 701 guys that actually come and visit site, but don't leave any messages ect.
The guys that do probably get to the point that they quit leaving messages, because nobody seems to care or write back . I have the site on search engines, but you have to remember too, that to really get on more search engines, cost money. This site is mainly maintained by selling the hats, and shirts, but if nobody buys them then the money comes from a private indivual (who asks to remain anomous!) That source is limited though, and from time to time the site has receive help from some of the other members. I personally don't want donations, but it would be nice if we could sell some hats or shirts!!!! Would like to make up some tee shirts with some logo, name, and maybe some photo's of equipment we repaired! The shirts we have now are of a golf style pullover with 701 crest. I don't have to many of them left. Could use some suggestions on ways to generate money ,but prefer not by asking for donations. I started this site as a act of love and that's exactly what it is.
Thank You All for supporting th site.

It's a darn shame there isn't more interest or people that know of this website. I just can't belive that someone in our outfit, and is aware of this website wouldn't post at least a hello.
Is there any possible way we can make this site more aware?known to people ? Post the links on search engine sites, etc.?? I know nothing of how to do this, but it would be great if someone could.

Gentlemen, First of all from a current Soldier to the ones that went before, Thanks. My Father SGT James "Frank" Brians was with the 701st for 15 months in country. He was the Battalion Commander's driver stationed at Dion around the time of TET. I'm trying to round up any photos of the area, or by off chance him, for a scrapbook of his service. Any information (ie the BC's name) or pics would be greatly appreciated.

Help for a vet trying to get service connected
|
posted by Ken Morris, SFC, USA, Retired
|
Hi, I am Ken Morris, US Army retired working as a Veterans Service Officer in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. One of your own is trying to get service connected for PTSD and needs your HELP! He is a homeless vet and was stationed with HQ & A Co, 701st Maint Bn from July 1967 to July 1968. He knows he was stationed in a place call Dian (with the D sounding like a Z) between Bin Hoa and Lai Khe. He was a wheel and track mechanic and often volunteered to go on patrols about every 30 days. His name is PFC John G. Holdren. He was from Roanoke, VA (he was/and still is an ole Country Boy!). He needs help remembering events, dates, places and names of some of the folks he was with. He is a recovering alcoholic and has lost a lot of long term memories. Can you please help this vet?
Thanks, Ken Morris (Retired but still serving!)

40 years ago I was driving in convoys up and down Highway 13. It's amazing how at times it seems like last week, and at other times it's like an eternity. A few days ago I heard a news commentator refer to our VietNam effort as synonomous with failure, and that's bugged me ever since. I don't think we failed, and I'm grateful to be a member of the Big Red One family. After all this time, it looks like we still have to fight for respect. Thanks for your sacrifice BRO's.

Ken, you missed a great reunion. The 701st had 17 members attending. A married couple from Germany were with C and D companies and cased the colors when they were returned to Ft. Riley. The 701st is now deactivated and they are in the 1st Sustainment Brigade. The active duty soldiers that visited our CP were outstanding. I believe a great time was had by all who were in the Support Units CP.
