Hey Tex. That name rings a bell but it sure has been a long time. I do remember Sgt. Tipton. I was a mechanic and hung around with Bob Tupper, Wayne Davis. I did attempt to find Wayne and went to Stevenson Ala. a few months ago. I seems he died about two years ago. I stopped by his family plot to pay my respects. I left D company in February 69 after a year and a half. Neil Mattson

Mike, just returned from South Dakota and a visit with Bob Tupper. He is in not so good health. He saw your photo of the truck with the word "gay" on the door. Bob says the rest of the story is that the word "Byrd" is blocked out and Gay Byrd was Wayne Davis' girl frind and that Wayne had painted on that truck. Murphy is not very far from Cleveland. Let me know if you want to meet for lunch one day. Neil

I can still see him deassing the flaming 3/4 landed in a ditch (truck). He was driving it. Killian was from New York, put gas in diesel without telling us. We let it flow off the tailgate and whoosh. They threatened us with Article 15s.

I found some old papers and photos. Molinars first name was David and he was from Silverbell, Arizona. Wayne Davis lived in Stevenson, Alabama and that is only a hundred miles or so from my home in Cleveland,Georgia. I have tried a phone search but their are too many people with that name in Northern Alabama. If anyone has a middle initial for him that would be a help. I spoke with Bob Tupper last night. He is in South Dakota and is now aware of the 701 webb site. By the way, Mo never mentioned burning a truck !!

The short blonde headed "kid" that was riding with Sgt Stevens when they hit that mine was Allen (last name) from state of Washington, radio repair. He came up with others prior to company convoy from Phouc Vinh. I was already there with contact team. Your friend Mo was driving a 3/4 with diesel(Killian mixed in gas) we were burning off field where company finally setteled down from their trip from Phouc Vinh. Fuel caught fire, burned truck to wires on tires.

Hi Mike!

I didn't get to know him because the dee dee'd to fast! I don't blame him a bit! I'd like to see the photos but am having some trouble getting to them. I'll keem trying though and sooner or later I'll find a way to view them. I AM NOT a good computer guy. The only way I get to use it at all is because my Son sets things up for me and turns me loose. The only problem is that now he's a AF 1st Lt Pilot and in Vance OK flying his T-1. That means he's not here helping Dad with his computer head aches. Oh well. I'll keep trying!
Good to hear from you

Hi Guys! I just found the place and thought I'd drop in. I was a 45B small arms repair guy in co. D from Aug 68 till about May of 69. I was pulled out of 701st and sent to Phu loi to work for Rebel gunships and went home on 12/24/69.

Quan Loi was a pit & Lai Khe wasn't a lot better. Phu Loi was pretty good because you hardly ever took any incoming. Not true at Lai Khe & Quan Loi.

Now I'm a semi retired GM worker that took the "buy-out" and left to start a new job. I went out and got my CDL and I'm starting out to drive diesel truck for a living until I retire.

All for now. I look forward to hearing and reading some of the stuff on the site.
Jeff Dulin
