I have extracted the section out of the Wisdom Manual that deals with the restrictor. I will be happy to e-mail it on request.

Jon, the way to check if the restrictor is installed takes two steps.

1. Check the rotational speed of the tub sweeps (not the tub rotation). It should be 11 RPM or less. If it is less than 11.5RPM no further work is required.

2. If the speed is over 11.5 RPM then there is a probability of the restrictor has been removed. The restrictor would be installed at the OUTLET of the valve that contols the sweep rotation. It could be installed in the hose connection (looks like a round tube with fittings at both ends and possibly a needle valve handle to adjust flow) or it could be built into the connection of the hose to the valve (it might be a small plate with a hole drilled in it to restrict flow). Wisdom does not show the device in any drawings I have in my files.

As a new inspector for Maine, what is the best way to ensure the restrictor is installed properly? (how do I check for it?) Thanks,

There is a troubleshooting manual that was put out by WMI Industries Ltd. On Page 28 of the manual there is a "RIDE DOES NOT RUNN AT FULL SPEED what to do list. Item #4 states that the hydraulic pressure should be 1,400 to 1,500 PSI. This verifies that the SIZZLER has to have a working Pressure Gauge. Item #5 raises a great deal of concern from a safety point of view. Item #5 says "If the pressure of 14-1500 PSI cannot be set then the pump is going bad and should be replaced. For a temporary repair, try removing the RESTRICTOR (located on the lower left filter of the cushion valve) to bring the ride back up to the 11-12 RPM".

In my opinion, removal of the FLOW RESTRICTOR can cause the ride to OVER-SPEED when the pump is replaced. REMOVAL of the RESTRICTOR is the same mechanically as a "jumper wire" in a control cabinet. IT SHOULD NEVER BE DONE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES no matter what the manual says. This also means that inspectors will need to check to make sure the restrictor is installed properly.
