As a child I saw him win several times in a dark green Lotus Eleven. He was fast without being agressive. And he could make an Eleven last for a whole race. That is talent! RIP Walter.

I'd just like to post a note lamenting the recent passing of newsman Walter Cronkite. For those of us old enough, we either got our TV news from him or those other two guys. In terms of the news world, a great loss, regardless. But Walter Cronkite had a direct connection to our world of road racing. Back in the day, it was TV personalities like Cronkite, Dave Garroway and others who could afford to bring in those latest creations from the other side of the big pond and use them for the purpose for which they were built. As a youngster I'd gobble up every word in the Mechanix Illustrated magazine my dad received each month regarding those small displacement (relatively speaking) high horsepower, hand crafted machines. Machines we'd never even dream of being able to own ourselves but through the photos and words in those magazines we could imagine ourselves behind the wheel. Thank you Walter---that's the way it was.
