Lets see..Dark + ice = bad. Dark + deer = Much more bad. No accidents = Very good. But it will be interesting as always. Just in case I can't make it...THANKS to EVERYBODY for a great season! Pete

The reason for the 3 sessions is that we must start the timed runs earlier as it gets dark around 4:30pm. Two years ago I pushed the schedule to the limit and our last several cars for timed runs were running in the dark and one of them hit a deer. I do not want a repeat of that. If we arrive at the track and there are only a few students we have no problem with combining the red and student groups. All year we have been able to give 4 sessions to TT guys and have fought consistently for more time for TT guys but sometimes things do not work out that way.

Mike and I just have to say for all the work that the EMRA volunteers do for free and the time and effort our volunteers but in, there seems to be a lot of complaining from people who we seldom see help out. One of the reasons we will no longer be TT chairs after this year. I guess it would be nice if people have these concerns they contact the TT chairs directly and ask what is going on. We do not check the forum as often as we should as I guess most TT guys do not realize we are stricly volunteers. all the time we spend on schedules, marketing, answering emails and phone calls, helping out at registration and running timing and scoring is on our own time in addition to our full time jobs and taking care of our family.

Just our thoughts and see everyone at Summit.

This debate centers around the fact that we dropped the sprint races which took up 2 hours-plus in the morning and gained nothing for the TTers.

there IS more time in the schedule for TT, but somewhere along the way EMRA seems to be forgetting to use it for increasing the TT track time.

since the event is barely more than a week away, someone offical should post an official response to these concerns instead of having a forum debate, which accomplishes nothing.

There were 38 total entrants taking timed runs last year and 41 the year before. add 10 for guys not taking timed runs and you have around 50 cars average. Seems that 3 groups should not only be no problem, but easy.

EMRA, Please find the time the racers gave up and give it to the trialists.

Yeah, this one might be tough. As Gerry and Focus189 stated, we'd be contending with an icy surface in the early morning and the darkness / deer by twilight.

I think what scares me the most are the deer. They really do come out with nightfall. It was either last year or the year before when it got pretty dark during timed runs. We had a couple close calls before one of the guys finally struck one coming out of turn 2. The driver was ok, but it's an experience I could do without.

Believe me, I'd love to see an earlier start (8:30 maybe?) and a set of combined sessions at the end. But I can understand if they decide not to do it.

I don't know what the arrangements are with the track, but having run this weekend *many* times in the past, I can tell you that it is frequently so cold in the early morning so as to make the first (8:00) session(s) useless as far as getting any feel for your car or the track. I'm not trying to argue against an early start - I'm just supplying practical information gained through experience.

Yours in Speed (and Personal Warmth),

I don’t know why we can only manage 3 sessions even without a race.
When I ran with NASA last week, cars were on track at 8 AM. Is there reasons whey we can’t be on track that early, that should give an hour more of track time.

I had a brief discussion with some of the powers that be and hopefully the day will be adjusted.

The intent of dropping the Sunday Sprint Races, which were always poorly attended, was to give the trialists a better day and hopefully encourage more drivers to come.

If EMRA cannot figure out how to add another session there is no point to having cancelled the sprints since the trialists managed to get 3 sessions and timed runs while still allowing 3 race groups to warm up and race.

Be assured that EMRA is trying.... Trying to improve.

Only problem is it gets dark around here now starting at 4:30. By 5:00 last night is was dark enough that I needed headlights. So you figure we would have to be wrapped up with Timed runs by 430 at the latest. I ran my last lap last year in the dark and it was no fun in 7, 8, and 9. Plus the deer move around more at dusk up there and makes it tricky to have to watch for them.
I would be good with combined run groups though. Double up on track time.

Its the last event of the year you would think that we would go out with some decent track time since there is no other race. A combined run group of Student with Novice and Intermediate with Advanced 1hr on 1hr off or 30 min on and 30 min off would be great!!!!!

i just looked at the schedule for Sunday Time Trials and notice that there are only three 20 minutes sessions. why can't we combine run groups so we can have more track time like previous events. i guess i'm just spoiled from having 5 sessions previously. i don't think i can justify $200 for 3 sessions.
