Thanks for all the input. We ended up taking the gwb to 80 and then 81.Way too long.took 78 back and was much faster which was nice considering I drove to summit and ended up making only a lap and a half before an oil leak sent me home early.I knew summit was too far to take the car for a shakedown.Oh well...be back next year.Have a nice winter everyone.....

If you are coming from LI and you are doing the outbound trip in the small hours of the night, I heartily recommend the Midtown Tunnel to the Lincoln Tunnel across midtown and out to the Turnpike. From there, find your way south on the NJ Turnpike to 78 east (exit 14A) and then take 78 out to 81, etc., etc.
Bob Kress used this method for years and I scoffed until I tried it. It's good. No matter what the hour, the CBE is usually a mess.
This only works in the wee small hours of the night, however.

For you, being at the GWB, going 80 to 81 is the only way that makes sense. From Long Island to the Goethals bridge I go north a bit on the NJTPike to then go west on 78 to 81.

Hello all,
The #89NEI mustang will be making a return for the summit tt event. She was finished for limerock but didn't want to test the limits of the new motor and suspension in the rain.I am looking for some info as to which is the best way down to summit from the GWB.I know 95 is a nightmare.I think we took 80 to 81 last time but was looking for any possible shorter routes.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks and hope to see you there.
