This class (ST-AWD) sounds fair. ST2 and ST1 should be fun!

The contest board recomendations will be presented to the EMRA board tomorrow night. The main board will probably rubber stamp them, but it is not a certainty. There are no new safety rules at all, thus no new expenditures! There will be a new class called ST-AWD for the turbocharged 4 wheel drive cars, and probably less restrictions on computer changes across the board. We will publish the details as soon as they are ratified.

The changes I am doing to my car for 2010 (EMRA Car Prep rules) will not allow me to remain in ST2. And I must agree that the ST2 class seems to be the most popular and the most competitive. Pete

Just to re-state the facts:
With all due respect,
This is NOT the place to ask for changes based on "feelings".
Bring facts, data & a proper petition to the Comp Board meeting.
I am not saying you are right or wrong, but based on the info stated here no one can do anything about a "possible" error in classes.
We will not switch to other clubs methods of classing cars.

i think the reason why there's a lot of cars in ST2 is because most cars in that class are wrongly class. some of those cars should be in ST3 and some should be in ST1. again, i think NASA's points system is the most fair.

fyi, if you put a test pipe on a turbo car(even factory tuned because they run so rich), you'll get huge flames :)

When I found out I burnt a piston don't think I was not trying to figure out how to sell the wife on that idea.
Would be a cheap as putting a motor back together for sure.

Never said change the rules to make me more competitive in class. Just make sure all the cars in class are built/modified within the rules. ST2 is the most competitive class out there and has the most car count over the last 3 years but 2 guys have cleaned house for the most part. I have never see a street car on a stock tune throw 2 feet flames on decel.
As far as why I run TT. For me I can use my daily driver and be semi competitive. I don't have the luxury of a seperate track car, ect. I am however competitive by nature and would rather stay home and watch than run in the back of the field all year long.

I time trial because it is affordable and within my means. The ST class structure also makes it affordable based on the car you choose to compete with. If you chose a vehicle that is not as competitive within your class the rules should not be changed to make you more competitive. If your modifications take you out of your original class into a more competitive class that was your decision. I think the turbo/non-turbo split may have merit because of the difficulty in regulating engine power based on boost. Having 8 or 18 pounds of boost does change things. See you at the comp board meeting.

Maybe fold the 2 tuner classes together but putting me back in ST2 where I was last year would probably make me rethink running as much.
My car is no where near competitive enough to run against the AWD stuff and high hp stuff I was up against.
Having fun and being a little competitive are 2 different things. If I wanted to have fun I could go run HPDEs and not worry about times at all.

Um, I would not call those Lamborghinis or Audis slow :-) Perhaps we should not seek to increase the number of classes but go the other way, consolidate the ST and GT lines based on the performance parity, fold the tuner classes into the ST line. There already aren't many cars per class.

In specific response to Steven's AWD comment, you should realize that all of the fast AWD cars happen to be turbocharged as well. The few normally aspirated AWD cars are quite slow! It takes boost to drag around all that extra machinery.

If you have specific changes you would like to suggest, please send them to Bill in writing well in advance of the meeting. Include as much information as you can and provide supporting documentation as well. Be very specific in what you are suggesting.
This will give Bill a chance to review things ahead of time and create an agenda for the meeting. Don't go crazy using the forum for extended discussions. Do that at the meeting.
The suggestions of the Comp.Bd. will be presented to the full EMRA Board to discuss and then voted on.

i like the points system used by NASA, i think it's the most fair.
using NASA points system, there's a two class separation between my s2000 and the Mitsubishi Evo. Yet they are in the same ST2 class with EMRA.

What about a 5.0 litre Mustang/Camaro mixing it up with a 1.6 litre Honda Civic in ST3?

Are you also considering separating AWD cars from 2wd cars? ST2 IMHO does not seem to be classed right with AWD vehicles mixing it up with the others.
