Hi,
I had same problem found it to be the worn gear linkage inside the motor housing. replacement gears did the trick

Hi a friend had a similar problem and had to reinforce the floor where the step fits alternatively you could buy a lightweight folding step hope you have success Bob

i am having problems with my step (pilote 25 mx 1995).it seems to have a lot of sag when it is stepped on.it is not the linkage but where it attatches to the bodywork,has anyone else had this problem.dave
