Andy, OK, that's what I thought you meant, but wasn't sure because it was a little generalized. I agree. I hate when people call one slap on the hand or the butt "spanking". I don't consider that spanking- it's just an attention-grabber. I have no problems with that. I also don't think spanking (as in several swats) if done minimally and non-abusively is nearly as "trauma-inducing" and horrible as all the psychs would have you believe. If I had kids, I personally couldn't do it, but I don't think there is anything wrong with it.
And the parents said they broke several spoons but they SAID it wasn't during spankings. One kid broke it on a table and then she kind of trailed off. I wonder though because those spoons break pretty easily. Seeing them use a fork in the video cracked me up!

Hi, dmlgirl, good day? thanks for the reply... more specifically, using a wooden fork? Should be a spoon, I'm doubt it broke because of the spanking, maybe their daughter sabotaged it;) Or poor quality spoon! Anyway, of course kids know how to get their own way, in my opinion they are testing the boundaries as a natural part of growing up, in the hope that there are some. Not explaining this too well, but if a kid feels they can't be put right, they tend to feel the parents don't love them enough. I know exactly what I mean, and will try to explain it better next time lol. I'm happy to chat on yahoo btw..
So spanking is only one part of the above, but at the risk of being seen as some kind of fossil, I think it does still play a beneficial role in some families. Have a good day, Andrew

Oh, I forgot- yeah, I'm sure they are harder and more swats w/o cameras but did you notice it wasn't even actually a spoon!? It was a wooden fork. They broke all the wooden spoons. I hadn't realized that was the case when they showed the clip until I looked at it again and saw it was a fork! Lol! Can you imagine being like, "Yeah, my parents spanked me with a wooden fork!" Lol!

Andy, not really sure how your post applies to spanking. You'll need to be a little more specific. I do think there is a lot of modern parenting that has gotten ridiculously out of control in the opposite direction from where it used to be. Parents are too permissive, too nervous, too analytical, too involved (helicopter parents- the ones who hover), and unwilling to be the authority and make decisions for what's best for the kids. I swear, I can't stand seeing parents sitting there for a half an hour trying to negotiate with a 2 year old about putting on their shoes. It's not a therapy session- just put the shoes on the kid and go! Ugh!

Typical.. 'if it aint broke don't fix it' All this modern thinking that the state knows better than parents is wrong... modern life thinks it's so clever and yet we are destroying society and the planet with too modern thinking. Too many petty rules arbitrarily applied don't help anyone...

True. I'm sure when the cameras are off the spankings are a bit harder.

What a weak spanking. Wish my parents were that easy to me.

Thanks to Jeff for the original text info.
Jeff tried to post this episode earlier, but that link didn't work outside of the US.
