I spanked Arlene Francis, and she insisted that I pull her Playtex girdle down to her knees. Good times.

Got it, thanks.
You should send it straight to Paul. Hopefully, he would then add Dorothy to the main SF&R site.

Remember the '50s and '60s game show called What's My Line? One of the regular panelists was Dorothy Kilgallen. Dorothy was a famous reporter of the day. She died mysteriously in 1965 after supposedly uncovering some information about the Kennedy assassination. Anyway, after watching What's My Line? I became fascinated with this woman and the life she lived. I read everything I could about her, including a book she wrote herself about a race around the world she went on in 1936. In 1936 when Dorothy was 23 she competed with other reporters in a race around the world designed to promote air travel. She wrote a book called "Girl Around the World".
In this book she describes many adventures she had during her trip around the world. Much to my surprise, one of those experiences was a paddling!! On page 181 of the book Dorothy describes how she received a paddling as part of an initiation ceremony the first time her plane flew over the International Date Line. She and another reporter were paddled by the veterans who had already flew over the IDL. Dorothy's exact words were "they soundly spanked us with table tennis paddles as we flew over the imaginary line". Quite fascinating!
The book is out of print by the way. I purchased it from a bookstore that specializes in old books. If you would like to read the reference for yourself, I would be happy to scan and email it to you. Just give me an email where you would like it sent.
By the way, here is a video of Dorothy Kilgallen playing What's My Line? She is the one on the far left.
