We're born with it. We all have completely different backgrounds, come from different countries, have had different childhood experiences, yet we all have the same interest. It's totally genetic. You'll never find the "reason" for it- it just is that way. I'd also say that probably 99% of the people who have this interest were not abused in any way either.
A lot of us have similar experiences as children about it though like looking up the word in the dictionary, remembering any scene that came on in a movie or tv show, etc.
