It's a file on the MacOS side. On the MacMinix side it opens the file and creates a device for the file. And then the mount.
See /etc/hdopen command.

MacMinix on vMac...

I am confused by the way MacMinix is starting up in vMac. I am using System 6.0.8. There is no actual hard drive, yet MacMinix says it's mounted /dev/hd1! Huh?
When I try to "maccreate", as per the instructions in the MacMinix documentation, it gives me an error of -35.
I'm very confused.
How do you create an auto-booting "hard drive" (disk image file?) in vMac with MacMinix on it? Naturally, I know MacMinix doesn't actually "possess" the hardware (it's actually just a Mac program), but...
Here's hoping anyone is having (or has had) better luck than I and can instruct me how to make MacMinix play nice with vMac.
Latre!
