I think these divisions are great. Although the B level teams are trying to get better, it's tough to go through divisionals knowing you're going to get stomped on by at least 4 teams. As important as improvement is, I think winning is important too in order to have some shred of fun. Also, smaller schools (fairfield, 3500 students) simply can't compete because we're not drawing from tens of thousands of students. It's just not reality. A teams don't need to be playing us anyways. They can face injury and boredom and it won't help them in any sort of National Ranking. I think this is the best thing the NECVL has ever done.

Let's not forget that when we set up the divisions during the Fall meeting a few of the B division teams had to volunteer to play in the A division because we didn't have 16 teams in A. For those B teams who think it is a bad for them to only play same-level teams, sorry but you had your chance to play in A but chose B. No regrets at this point in the year.

Yo March 27th at Umass it's a chance for North A, and South A to play each other not to mention some out of conference teams and NCAA teams.

This is the best format for this league to get national respect. The only thing is interdivisionals should be between north and south teams of their own div. That would put in another competitive weekend, if space was available, (2 weekends of inter div so North and South can play everyone I know we are off this weekend). Putting a review of the season in at the end of the season seeing if any B teams earned any A team's spot should be inplace if it is not already

The power division is by far the best thing that happened to the league I think we should go a step furtherer and keep the power division's playing each other in the interdivisionals

I was not aware teams were able to move between divisions. I am fairly new to this league and am not familiar with the organizational structure. You are right, it is in the best interest of the B teams to improve so they can move up.

this isnt grade school volleyball. Most teams are interested in winning and getting better to due well in the nation and win the league. They shouldnt have to get worse in order to help the bad teams play better. Those teams need to do that on their own. I see no point in any of the poor B-teams playing UMass, Columbia, Army, BU, BC, or NU. Those teams are all National level programs and should be concerned with playing teams that MAKE OUR LEAGUE BETTER in the nation. Forcing them to play B level teams will only leave our league at the bottom of the national barrel like we have been for years. This is the first year our teams look like national contenders and I think its a direct result of the power format. I think this is the best decision the NECVL has ever made, and a huge step in the right direction.

I think the format is great. This gives incentive to get better in order to move up in the division and play better teams. You can also go out of league play and schedule better teams. I think havign 4 equal divisions made our top teams worse, and would not have given the best teams a chance to be on the national level. You are right, teams can improve over time, but in order to do so they must master the skills they need to win B-level games, and then turn it up a notch when playing A level teams. Then the next year they can fight for a spot in the A division. This way the A division is full of complete teams and the B division is strong with teams trying to get better, not just getting beat by great teams wasting their time. I know it sucks playing a team alot worse than you.

I can understand that A teams would not want to play B teams because the competition would not be as good. Think about more than just this season, though. A teams playing B teams would improve the level of B teams skill, providing a much deeper, richer skill level for the whole league. It may take a couple years or so, but it would be worth it for the league in the long term.

I completely agree on that fact the teams from the B division lose out because in volleyball, experience is the best way to get better. Practicing with the same players, and playing the same competition does not allow for weaker players and teams to visually see before their eyes ways in which they can improve. Practicing blocking multiple attempts on Wednesday night at 10:00 is not the same as seeing it happen to you three plays in a row by a good team. That's only an example, but I'm sure you can understand what I mean.

I'm curious to here what everyone thinks of the new format for the NECVL. Do you guys like the idea that teams are divided between North and South and A and B divisions? Do teams in the B division lose out by not playing tougher competition or do they gain by only playing teams at their own level? Do teams in the North lose out by not playing teams from the South? Any thoughts?
